Seasonal Inspiration

Our community is having a door decorating contest and this is a portion of our amazing door! It’s completely due to Benjamin’s creativity and patience. He constructed this winter wonderland from scratch using only paper and tape!

This is only the bottom portion of the door. The tree extends up and holds a cute little bird on one of its limbs, all in a white paper silhouette.

HappyMail

With the dust settling from our recent move, I’m returning to the things I love most: reading, writing, my ukulele, my bullet journal, baking and craft projects. It feels so good to be back!

I got my first HappyMail sent off from the new place today! Here’s a detail shot of the gorgeous envelope, made from a page in an old atlas. I love atlases as much as a grown-up as I did as a kid. Such beautiful colors and artwork!

Brave Snail

This lovely critter was hanging out in the blackberry thicket. Luckily Benjamin stumbled across her and caught her on camera. I’ve always loved snails. This one seems particularly brave for moving so adeptly in amongst all those thorns! She’s absolutely luminescent in her outstretched form, isn’t she?

A New Desk

I have a desk again! For the first time in years, I have a place to sit and write, to draw and craft and create. A place that’s suited to me and my creative interests. Not a repurposed table that doesn’t have enough storage, with all of my supplies scattered about our tiny home in whatever nook I can find a space for them.

Now when I sit, all of my paper crafts and art supplies are together, right at hand. My fabrics and yarns are on a bookshelf nearby. I’m so excited! I anticipate that I’ll be more productive this way, as unfinished projects won’t get tucked away into a random nook and forgotten about.

I’ve been working on gathering and organizing all of my supplies for the last couple of weeks. During that time I was also scanning the classifieds and visiting resale shops for the right chair and desk (small enough to fit our space, large enough to store everything and have room to spread out across the workspace on top). This week it all came together and today will be my first day to sit and work at my desk!

Now I just need a desk lamp… because today is so dark and cloudy that with my desk tucked away in a corner it’s a bit like being in a cave! But I know that the right one will come to me just as this desk and chair did. I’m so excited to have my own workspace in our tiny home.

Time-Worn Memories

In going through old photos today to find a photo for a new blog post I came across this beauty from 1991 that I shot on a family trip to the Grand Canyon. I’ve been snapping photos most of my life. And in an era of dramatic filters and perfect post-processing, it felt really good to see a time-worn, color-aged film photo that matches the time-worn and aged memories I have to go with it.
